Michael D. Tarantino, MD, is Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Professor at the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. He is the Medical Director of the Comprehensive Bleeding Disorders Center and the Laboratory Director of the Comprehensive Hemostasis and Thrombosis Institute also in Peoria.

Dr. Tarantino received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona Affiliated Hospitals School of Medicine in Tucson and a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Wisconsin Children's Hospital in Madison. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Dr. Tarantino currently serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the Platelet Disorders Support Association. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Society for Pediatric Research, the American Society of Hematology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, Hemophilia and Thrombosis Research Society, and the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis. Dr. Tarantino has published numerous articles on the biology and management of ITP, is a frequent lecturer, and has presented at national and international meetings. His research interests focus on immunogenetics of immune thrombocytopenia, the function and regulation of platelet membrane adhesion receptors, and the treatment of hemostatic and thrombotic disorders in adults and children.
